HIPA Psychology Club
Building the Next Generation
The HawaiÊ»i Island Psychological Association is dedicated to supporting and advancing mental health professionals across Hawai‘i. Our Psychology Club creates a welcoming space for students and emerging practitioners to connect, learn, and grow together.

Our Story
Launched in October 2023, the HIPA Psychology Club was co-founded by Executive Director Dr. Roger Weiss and then-psychology intern Amylia-Rae Gandolf, now HIPA’s Executive Assistant. Inspired by their shared commitment to mentorship and building meaningful pathways for the next generation of mental health professionals, the club was created as a space for exploration, connection, and growth.
Since its beginning, the club has welcomed students and early-career professionals into monthly gatherings featuring hands-on workshops, talk-story sessions, and guest speakers. Members have explored diverse topics such as art therapy with LMFT Lisa Vazquez, breath work with Dr. Jamuna Wyss, and mock counseling sessions led by Dr. Weiss. They’ve also gained practical insight into pain management with Dr. Cathy Hammond, forensic psychology with Dr. Reneau Kennedy, and career development with Dr. Jim Efstation and Dr. Terry Ann Fujioka.
